REALM Communications Group was founded in 1987 by John B. Russell to take advantage of the then emerging market for fiber optic services. The company specialized in selling fiber optic cables, modems, cable assemblies, and test equipment. REALM started in the attic of the Bright Eagle Mansion in Menlo Park, California. In 1989, the company moved to a 2-room office suite at 480 California Avenue, Palo Alto, California and hired its first employee. REALM started to stock fiber optic equipment and inventory in its new location.
In 1996, REALM had outgrown its office suite and moved to an industrial park at 1719 Little Orchard Street, San Jose, California. There, the company began to manufacture cable assemblies, custom tools, and integrate products. The company’s staff grew to approximately 12 people and its fiber optic equipment & inventory increased to meet the hot emerging market. On 6/22/98, REALM also became an electrical contractor to install networks.
REALM purchased a 6,600-sq. ft. building on 2181 Del Franco Street in San Jose, California in 1999. The business boomed with the dot.com ramp up and REALM incorporated on September 1, 1999. REALM developed more products, offered more fiber optic services, stocked more inventory, and hired more people. The company’s personnel soared to 48. To meet the customer’s requirements, in February 2001, REALM purchased and began building a new facility at 840 Yosemite Way, Milpitas, California.
The company moved into the new 33,850 sq. ft. facilities in spring of 2002. The company did more contracting work and shifted its emphasis from the OEM market to the private networking sector.
Today, REALM Communications Group, Inc. is a distributor, a manufacturer, a fiber optic cables supplier, an OEM, a license contractor, a certified splicer repair shop, and a custom engineering company. We are acting as a Distributor for Anritsu, Fitel, Seiko Geiken, NTT-ME (Cletop cleaner), NTT-AT (Optipop Cleaner), Westover Scientific Multilink, Noyes, and many others. We have a manufacturing floor that connectorizes jumper cables and devices of any type. Over the years, we have designed 300+ types of polishing fixtures, developed processes, connectorized devices for most of the Silicon Valley fiber optic companies. REALM supports other connector shops and is oftentimes called upon to solve their technical issues.
